Giant Leaps at Conference on Alternative Proteins for Food and Feed

Giant Leaps closed 2024 presenting at a great conference on alternative proteins. From December 3rd to 5th, 2024, Nesli Sozer from partner VTT attended the Alternative Proteins for Food and Feed International Conference in Berlin, Germany.
This conference discussed sustainable alternative protein sources and explored how they can transform the way we feed the world, focusing on safety and nutritional aspects, including consumer perception and economic success.
As part of Giant Leaps, Nesli presented a poster focusing on three cases from the project showcasing plant and fermentation-made proteins accelerating the protein transition. There were discussions with various stakeholders, mainly academics, policymakers and regulatory bodies.
The Singapore case was very interesting both from consumer and regulatory perspectives, from
which we learned that the regulatory path is much easier than in the EU. Additionally, consumers in this country, which
is 98 % dependent on imported food, are more open to novel approaches such as cultivated meat, plant-based, and
fermentation-made solutions.
