GIANT LEAPS and VALPRO Path to hold joint Final Conference on Europe’s protein transition

On 25 June 2026, the Horizon Europe projects GIANT LEAPS and VALPRO Path will hold their joint Final Conference at Atelier des Tanneurs in Brussels. The event will bring together policymakers, researchers, industry representatives, and other stakeholders to present science-based evidence and practical pathways supporting Europe’s protein transition.

As the main dissemination milestone for both projects, the conference will showcase important results and translate research findings into policy-relevant insights and implementation strategies. The programme is designed to highlight how scientific evidence, technological innovation, and governance frameworks can contribute to accelerating the shift towards more sustainable protein systems.

The agenda will be structured around thematic sessions addressing barriers to the adoption of alternative proteins, scientific and technological solutions, sustainability considerations in the dietary shift, and strategic pathways for Europe’s protein transition. Each thematic block will be followed by expert panel discussions, creating space for dialogue between science, policy, and industry.

In the afternoon, parallel sessions will explore specific areas in greater depth. One track will focus on primary production and processing, examining innovation from crops to final products. Another will address safe, healthy, and trusted alternative protein applications, covering food safety, nutrition, regulatory aspects, and consumer trust. The conference will conclude with a plenary session dedicated to identifying future research priorities and remaining gaps that need to be addressed to support long-term system transformation.

The event is intended for EU and national policymakers, representatives from the food, agriculture, and biotechnology sectors, researchers and academics, NGOs, innovation agencies, research funders, and knowledge-transfer professionals.
