Young Investigators Webinar "Sustainability and dietary modelling"

Join the second webinar hosted by Giant Leaps' Young Investigators on October 29 at 11:00 CET.

This time our early-career scientists will dive deep into sustainability and dietary modelling, addressing the tools used to better understand the impacts of alternative protein sources on various dimensions of sustainability and how these impacts can be evaluated by means of multicriteria decision analysis.

Topics

  • The nutritional value and prices of existing subsitute products on the market and how their environmental impacts can be better understood
  • A framework to assess multiple sustainability dimensions of alternative protein sources, with a focus on biodiversity related impacts
  • The method of multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA) and its application on the sustainbility of alternative protein sources

Speakers

Meet the early-career researchers presenting their work:

  • Armin Siegrist, ETH Zurich. Armin has a background in environmental engineering. In his PhD, he is investigating the environmental impacts, affordability, and nutritional value of substitutes for meat, and dairy products.
  • Venla Kyttä, Natural Resources Institute Finland. Dr Kyttä is a postdoctoral researcher specializing in sustainable food systems, with a focus on ensuring adequate nutrition for all while preserving biodiversity and minimizing environmental impacts.
  • Matilde Milana, Wageningen Food Safety Research (WFSR, WUR). Matilde has her background in human nutrition and food safety, with a focus on alternative protein sources. She's currently in the 4th year of her PhD, working on assessing the sustainability of alternative protein foods, placing the focus on food safety.
